What the Caregiver Needs to Know - Physical Activity

Caregiver supporting an elderly person

A caregiver is someone who is responsible for the care and wellness of another person or plays a role in the care required for someone. This may be a relative, significant other, neighbor, or friend. Whatever the role, it is very important for the caregiver to understand basic care needs. A caregiver's support can improve quality of life. Helping with physical activity and healthy lifestyle changes are just a few of the steps on the journey to staying well. The more a caregiver knows, the better able he or she will be to give care.

Remember: when caring for another person, it is important to take care of yourself too! Seek help from others when needed and know your own limitations.

Local Resources for Caregivers

You can check your local area for a community center, park, recreation center, VA medical center, YMCA, health club, mall walking group or church group to join and do physical activities that you enjoy.
