Upgrade to a Premium Account

Upgrade to a Premium account to have full access to My HealtheVet Premium features. This includes the VA Pharmacy feature that allows you to refill your prescriptions online. A Premium account will also allow you to sign in to other VA online tools and services.

As of September 2021, the Advanced account type is no longer available. If you did not upgrade your Advanced account to the Premium level before September, your account reverted to the Basic level. Users who are VA patients or CHAMPVA beneficiaries must upgrade to a Premium account to use the online Pharmacy feature.

Get a Premium account online

Follow these 2 steps to get a Premium My HealtheVet account online.

  1. Register for a My HealtheVet account. When you register, your identity must be verified. Your identification information (full name, Social Security number, date of birth [DOB]) must match your VA/DoD records so your account can be connected. Do not register for a new account if you already have a Basic account.

Note: Once your account is connected to your VA/DOD records, your account can be upgraded to Premium.

  1. Upgrade to a Premium account:

    • Sign in to My HealtheVet using your Premium DS Logon or ID.me* account

    • You may be asked to accept the My HealtheVet Terms and Conditions

    • Select the 'Upgrade' button on the home page next to your name

    • Check the certification box to verify you're the owner of the account and select 'Continue'

    • After selecting 'Continue,' your account will upgrade to Premium

* ID.me is a trusted VA partner that meets the U.S. requirements for online identity proofing and verification. ID.me helps you prove your identity across multiple websites using one account. Create an ID.me account at id.me/registration/new.

Sign up for a Premium account in person

Sign up for a Premium account in person. You can get a My HealtheVet Premium account in person at a VA health care facility where you're registered as a patient. You'll need to bring a government-issued photo ID. This can be either your Veteran Health Identification Card or a valid driver’s license.

Note: If your primary ID information does not match your official VA medical record, bring a secondary card such as your social security card.

Sign up for a Premium account via a video visit

Sign up for a Premium account via a secure video visit. Some VA health care facilities can help you upgrade via a video appointment if you're registered as a patient. Contact your My HealtheVet Coordinator or other VA staff at your local VA health care facility for more information.

Check your account type

Look for your account type on the welcome banner near the top of any page. If you have a Basic account, there will be a  after your name. If you have a Premium Account, there will be a  next to your name.
