Send and Receive Secure Messages on VA.gov

Now part of the new My HealtheVet experience

In the past, you’ve needed to go to many different online places to manage VA-related tasks. The new My HealtheVet experience on VA.gov allows you to manage your health care needs in the same place that you manage your other VA benefits and services.

As part of this effort, we’ve built a new version of My HealtheVet secure messaging on VA.gov. Your My HealtheVet messages are now only available on VA.gov. Start using the new My HealtheVet experience on VA.gov to manage all of your health care needs.

How to get started with messages on VA.gov 

When you sign in to the current My HealtheVet, you'll notice that we've moved over to the new experience on VA.gov. You’ll need to go to My HealtheVet on VA.gov to send and receive messages.

Here’s what you can do with this tool: 

  • Send and receive non-urgent messages with VA providers and staff on your care team

  • Organize messages in folders

  • Download and print messages

We’ve also made some changes to make this tool easier to use:

  • The new mobile-first design makes it easier to use messages—from wherever you are on any device.

  • Just like modern email, the new tool supports full threading of messages. Threading collects all the messages in a conversation so that nothing is lost.

  • We’ve improved accessibility for all veterans, including those who use screen readers.

  • A more secure sign-in experience meets modern standards to better protect your data.

  • Drafts autosave every 10 seconds instead of 2 minutes, so you can trust that your writing is saved.

Note: Veterans who receive care from a VA health facility that uses the My VA Health portal will still need to go to that portal to manage their messages for now. 

Use all the tools on the new My HealtheVet experience

You can also go directly to the new My HealtheVet experience on VA.gov to send and receive secure messages. While you’re there, you can also manage your VA appointments, refill and track your prescriptions, review your medical records, and more.
