Learn More About My HealtheVet VA Notes
VA Notes are part of your permanent medical record. Veterans who have a My HealtheVet Premium account can access VA Notes. They include all completed VA progress, telehealth, and consult notes including primary care, specialty care, mental health, social work, nursing notes, and Secure Messaging interactions that have been saved as notes. Physicians, nurses, consultants, therapists and other members of the health care team record their notes in your medical record. VA Notes are part of the My HealtheVet VA Blue Button and VA Health Summary features that allow you to view, print, download and save available health information (data) in your My HealtheVet account.
Members of the health care team may use VA Notes to record your health condition and the care provided to you. The notes may include medical facts, clinical findings, health progress, opinions and treatment plans. It may also track your response to the care that was provided. Most importantly, it serves as a way for members of your health care team to share information about you.
Most of your VA Notes from January 1, 2013 forward are available 3 calendar days after they have been completed and signed by all required members of your VA health care team. Currently, Compensation and Pension Exam notes are available 3 calendar days after they are completed. In the future, Compensation and Pension Exam notes will be available 30 calendar days after they are completed. Contact the local Release of Information Office to request access to any VA Notes written prior to January 1, 2013.
